Representatives of the four top finishers of the just concluded Vitamalt / Aqua Mist sponsored West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) Knockout Cup received their prizes, during a simple ceremony that was conducted in the boardroom of main sponsor Banks DIH yesterday.
Also in attendance at the occasion were President of the WDFA Nigel Garraway, Aqua Mist Brand Manager Errol Nelson, Malts Brand Manager Clayton McKenzie, Vice-President of the WDFA Christine Smith and Communications Manager Troy Peters.
Garraway in his remarks first thanked the Management and Staff of Banks DIH for partnering with the WDFA through the two brands, before extending the same accolade to the teams, fans, other sponsors and the media.
He then gave a brief overview of the tournament, adding that it was well run and even thanked the Executive of the Association for not only putting together the event, but also ensuring that it was run with the professionalism that every sponsor and fan love to be associated with.
He then spoke of the support offered by the Guyana Police Force and extended thanks to the entity, while also informing that the tournament was played in memory of the late Assistant Commissioner Derek Josiah and whose family, including his wife and children were consistently present at the matches.
Nelson, who addressed the small gathering after, expressed similar sentiments to that of Garraway, singling out the fans as the main reason for the tournament’s success. He made special mention of the winner Slingerz FC, but also took the time to congratulate all the other teams for adding to the success of the competition.
Nelson praised the Organisers for ensuring that the tournament was well run. McKenzie said the tournament was an energy-filled one which was supported and embraced by all the fans that turned out to cheer their respective teams.
He reminded that the event had energy similar to that of the product which it was sponsored under that of the Vitamalt Plus which provides vigor and vitality for both players and fans. It was also mentioned that individual prizes were given to the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and Highest Goal scorers.
