Hutson says issue being dealt with
Coordinator of Project Blackwater football club, Ivor Sandiford, told Kaieteur Sport on Wednesday last that officials of the East Coast Demerara Sub Association have not issued his team fixtures for their U-17 tournament.
Sandiford stated that his club continues to prepare for the competition which will be used to select the sub association U-17 team and feels that this is a deliberate ploy to keep his team out of the tournament.”This is a political gimmick. We are affiliated to the sub association and members of our team are currently undergoing rigorous training sessions under coach Troy Wright but if they do not issue us with the fixtures then our players will loose the opportunity of representing the association and our country.
May Allah bless the football fraternity”, he added.
Sandiford informed that president of the East Coast Demerara Sub Association Aubrey Hutson visited their practice sessions on Thursday last at the East La Penitence Secondary ground and said the fixtures will be granted shortly but to date they haven’t received any. He is calling on the Guyana Football Federation and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport to intervene.
The club was formed in 1994 and has produced several national players. It became the first team from the sub association to take part in the Kashif and Shanghai tournament which paved the way for other teams in the district. The club recently formed a disciplinary committee that is made up of parents of the players.
Coach Wright said they have commenced preparation two months ago and there are 35 players currently training for the competition which he informed has already started. The coach stated that the club also has a U-13, 21 and 23 as well as a senior team. Wright, who represented Thomas United and Blackwater FC at the first division level and won the best goalkeeper award at the Kashif and Shanghai tournament in 1997, believes that the club has a number of talented players who are capable of representing Guyana with flying colours.
“The sub association is not giving our players an opportunity to showcase their talent, but we hope for the best,” he said.
Meanwhile, when contacted, president of the sub association, Aubrey Hutson said there is issue with the club’s affiliation which they are trying to sort out and the club needs to be patient. He informed that due this they have suspended the tournament and fixtures will be released until this issue is being sorted out.
Meanwhile, The Ruimveldt Life Improvement Centre Assembly of God donated a number of balls to the club on Wednesday last.
