Malcolm Archer will be hard pressed to retain his title won last year when the
Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) stages the Malta Supreme One-day Rapid Chess tournament at the Constabulary Recreational Hall, Linden, Sunday March 25 next.
The competition will see junior and senior players battling for honours and Archer will have to stave off the challenges of experienced players the likes of National Champion, Taffin Khan, his dad David, Saeed Ali and Anthony Drayton among other top players.
Malta Supreme Brand Manager, Clayton McKenzie handed over the sponsorship cheque to Secretary of the Guyana Chess Federation, Vishu Rampersaud at the Thirst Park office of the sponsors in the presence of President of the GCF, Shiv Nandalall. He commended the organizers and urged the participants to exhibit discipline and dedication even as they aspire for the top prize.
Communications Manager (Banks DIH Ltd), Troy Peters also complimented the organizers for their commitment in organizing frequent tournaments for their charges. He further said that his company is pleased to render support towards the success of the tournament. He noted that that a similar tournament was organized on the West Coast Demerara last year and proved to be highly successful. “Banks DIH enjoys a very good working relationship with the executives of the Chess Federation and is pleased to partner with them in their quest to popularize the sport,” concluded the Communications Manager.
The tournament would be contested under the Swiss System and consists of seven rounds with a time limit of 40 minutes per game. Trophies and cash prizes are at stake.
