Berbice High school scored a come from behind win to capture the Inter-school Under-15 football competition which was recently staged in the ancient county.
In the final which was played on Monday at the Port Mourant ground, Corentyne, Berbice High School (BHS) came from behind to edge past nemesis Tutorial Academy Secondary (TASS) 2-1 to win the Garrett Cup.
It was intense battle between two evenly matched teams. Both teams were in excellent form having demolished their opponents in the earlier rounds.
In the final TASS drew first blood as H. Henry scored in the 30 minute to leave the score 1-0 at half time in the 70 minutes match. BHS then found their range soon after the resumption with a Javier Fraser strike in the 42nd minute. Graham Thomas then put BHS in front in the 54 minute as he made no mistake in front of the goal.
The competition which saw 16 schools participating was divided into three zones namely New Amsterdam/Canje, Central Corentyne and Upper Corentyne zones.
The competition attracted sponsors Republic Bank and Digicel and was played in collaboration with the Ministries of Sports and Education and the Corentyne All stars Football Club. The Coordinator was Vibert Garrett.
