As the $6.5M Guyana Cup horserace meet at the Rising Sun Turf Club just mere days away, Entries have closed and over 70 horses have taken entry. All the major stables in the country have upped their preparation in anticipation of the mega event as they look to out do each other and take a bite a the heft prizes on offer.
Apart from the lucrative monetary rewards available for the respective champions on the eight race card. The organisers have also put forward six scooters for the outstanding performers on race day.
Reports from across the country have seen most of the stables in over drive as they heighten their preparations, putting in the final touches for the big day. All of the big stables have been a hive of activities as the respective owners continue to get their animals into top shape.
A closer look at the respective stables shows: At the Mahaicony Racing stables – Horses such as Coconut Boy, Finishing Touch and Strike D Fire were going great guns.
The Naljit stables were busy getting Over the Map in line, while at the Rising Sun Turf Club, horses from the Habibullah racing stables which included Illogical, Barrack and Hat-trick were going through their paces by trainer Fazal Habibullah.
At the Jumbo Jet racing stables the horses were being put through their paces by trainers Sham “short man” Chattergoon and Romel ‘Blacks’ Ramroop and one look at the likes of Sequins, Jumbo Joy, Prospectors Pride, Top on the Line, Kavinci and Zionata will tell that they are ready for the competition.
The Jagroop stables making a welcome return to the track under the guidance of head trainer Romel Jagroop was busy guiding Sea Rocket through its paces.
Over at the No 6 Norman Singh race track – two stables were busy whipping their animals into shape. The Customs Racing stables – had the Gap, Laura Lee in Flight, Sweet Caramel and Prixie Fire burning up the track under the watchful eyes of trainer Tillack Dharry.
The Lenny Singh contingent was busy putting One of a Kind and Little Spike through their paces under the direction of Ganesh Singh.
Across on the eastern end of the Berbice river the Elcock Delmur Trading Company stables – Owner trainer Colin Elcock were in charge of proceedings as they carry Miss Republic, the Message, Alphabet, Face The Music, Lady of My Dreams and Peaceful through their exercises.
Over at the Chris Jagdeo Stables – La Bayamosa, Sweet Romance, Mattarazzi and Fire Power were being rounded into shape by trainer Andrew Jagdeo.
The two Crawford stables under the guidance of Senior Council Marcel Crawford and Selso Crawford have a combination of Night Crescendo, Amy Jane, Vanessa and Justice Leroy looking fit and ready for action.
The Rumours Racing stable with brothers Steve and James Mootoo at the helm will see Zebra, Pinch De Cash, Luv U Dee, Jems Pride and Day Light Reprise being thrown into competition.
Other animals such as Royal Champion, Funny Sided, Star Streak, Miami Vice and Natural Black will also be looking to make their name on the grand day.
