Vurlon Mills has been the most successful youth coach in recent years and the Chase Academic Foundation Manager added another title in the bag after orchestrating the star-studded school to the boys’ title of the Inaugural ExxonMobil under-14 schools’ football tournament, yesterday afternoon at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on CARIFESTA Avenue.
The boys’ champions triumphed in emphatic fashion with a 6-1 steamrolling of losing finalists North Ruimveldt Multilateral. On the score sheet for the private school were Devon Padmore (second minute), Sealon Sue (sixth), Jaheel Alexander (23rd), Renaldo Abrams (36th), Shaquan Liverpool (41st) and Kevin Mullin (48th) minute.
Orland Dikie was the lone goal scorer for ‘Multi’. It was a very lopsided affair and after Chase had gotten past their true rivals for the boys’ title; Buxton, Chase who had a squad which comprised of seven national under-15 players were destined to lift the crown.
In the girls’ final, eventually winners Charlestown Secondary were actually knocked out by East La Penitence during last Saturday’s semifinal round but La Penitence were found guilty of breaking the tournament rules and Charlestown gained the final berth.
Given a second opportunity, Charlestown made use of it and defeated East Ruimveldt 3-0 in the final. Shania Easton, who eventually finished the girls’ tournament as the highest goal scorer, scored a brace with her first strike putting the champions ahead in the eighth minute. Donna Lowe then doubled the lead in the 25th minute before Easton completed her brace in the 40th minute.
The first placed teams received $300,000 towards a project of their schools’ choice, while second received $200,000, third $100,000 and fourth $50,000.
