DCC and MSC will collide in the final of the GCA’s New York Tri State 50 U-19 Tournament at the DCC ground from 09:30hrs tomorrow after DCC got past NYTS by 47 runs and MSC enjoyed an 81-run win over GCC in yesterday’s semi-finals.
At Bourda, DCC without West Indies U-16 Skipper Sachin Singh, unavailable due to the encampment of the Guyana U-17 training squad, won the toss and elected to bat on a flat track in sweltering heat.
They were led by a watchful unbeaten 60 from National U-19 All-rounder Sagar Hertheramani as the Queenstown unit recovered from 60-5 to reach 206-8 off 50 overs as Brandon Jaikarran (38), Qumar Torrington (34), Nkosi Beaton (29) and Daniel Mootoo (19) were the only other batsmen to reach double figures.
Leg-spinner Gotham Ravindran (4-21) and Dauod Mohammed (2-43) were the main wicket-takers for the Americans who fell for 159 in reply with opener Raymond Ramrattan making 31 and Dauod Mohammed getting 29.
Windies U-19 left-arm spinner Ashmead Nedd had three wickets, while Mootoo and Krishna Whitney supported with two wickets each to send the much touted NYTS crashing to their first defeat in the competition.
Earlier, Ravindra, who opened the bowling, spun webs around the DCC batsmen and captured the first four wickets to put the home side on the ropes on 45-4.
The leggie sent Garrick Persaud (0), Joshua Persaud (12), Alphius Bookie (1) and Nedd (1) and when Travis Ross bowled Jaikarran at 60-5 the visitors, with a 400 and 300 plus totals in the competition, must have been already harbouring thoughts of a place in the finals.
However, Hertheramani, who reached the boundary three times and got his only six when the long-on fielder over balanced over the boundary demonstrated wonderful temperament with wickets falling around him.
He found a useful ally in Nkosi Beaton, who hit two fours in 29 before being L
BW to Ramrattan at 113-6 in a partnership that produced 53 runs to get DCC back on track.
The pint size Mootoo used the pace of the bowlers and scored most of his 19 runs square and behind the wicket but when he was removed by Mohammed DCC were seven down and still 48 away from a 200 total.
But pacer Torrington threw his bat around and connected with four fours and a six in a cameo before he was stumped off Mohammed at 198-8.
When the visitors began the chase, Ramrattan, the only batsman to score a century, was looking good but once he departed only Mohammed offered token resistance as the New Yorkers slipped to defeat.
At Malteenoes, the home team were dismissed off the last ball of their 50thover for 183 as Ntini (33), Collis Rimple (30), Akeem Critchlow (29), Wayne Bollers (26) and Jeremiah Scott (22) all got starts but could not convert them into a big score.
