Port Mourant Training Centre win again
It was yet another successful day for the Berbice Volleyball Association (BVA) as it completed yet another volleyball outreach, this time in the Black Bush Polder area.
The outreach, which was held on Sunday at the Mibicuri Volleyball court, saw executives of the BVA led by President Levi Nedd and a number of other teams travelling to the area to participate in the exercise.
In total 10 teams participated in the day’s activity inclusive of seven seniors and three junior teams. The large turnout was despite the absence of the teams from the Orealla/Siparuta area who had to leave on the boat some 70 miles back up the Corentyne River.
The activity, which was open for persons living in the Black Bush Polder area and interested in learning to play the game and those playing but are interested in enhancing their skills, saw a number of them participating.
It also saw two teams from the area, Mibicuri Strikers and Gemini joining the association. The other teams that participated in the day’s activities were Port Mourant Training Centre (PMTC) 1, 2 and 3, Three Door strikes of De Edward, WCB and No52 Survivors. The three teams that participated in the junior category were Corriverton Jets, Tain Humanitarian and No 52 Survivors.
Lectures, coaching and a few exhibition games were played as part of the day’s activity. The teams from the Black Bush Polder areas also received Literature, kits and playing balls, nets, rules books, training materials and other volleyball assortments. The other teams that participated were presented with playing balls.
A number of exhibition games and a competition were played. In the final of the senior competition PMTC1 continued its dominance when they defeated Three Door Strikers 25-14, 25-23 in the finals. In the junior category the winner was No52 Survivors who won from Tain Humanitarian 25-17.
BVA President Levi Nedd and other members of his executives along with a number of national players were the resource personnel.
The outreach, which is a part of the BVA series of volleyball outreaches, was the third for the year so far with the riverain communities of Orealla/Siparuta benefitting. There was also one for female and junior players at Skeldon, Corentyne.
The BVA activities continue this week end (Saturday and Sunday) with a workshop for coaches at the Port Mourant Community Centre beginning at 09:00 hrs each day. (Samuel Whyte)
