It’s almost two years since the last edition of the Guyana Fight Night boxing card was staged and boxing fans have been wondering if the organizers of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) have ditched the programme. Apparently, this is far from the truth and the organizers have said that they were reorganizing their thoughts. Those modalities have since been put in place and the GBBC will return with a bang when it stages the 31st edition of the programme with a 5 bout card dubbed ‘Brawl at the Mall,’ slated for September 26 next.
The action will be in an enclose arena at the recently commissioned Giftland Office Max, Lilliendaal, ECD and the main bout pits together local welterweight champion, Iwan Azore, defending his belt against Dexter Gonsalves in a highly potential scorcher.
The main supporting bout will see Quincy Gomes matching skills with Anson Greene in a 6 rounds welterweight affair while national amateur bantamweight champion, Imran Khan, will strip off his vest in his debut fight against David Thomas over 4 rounds in the lightweight category. The night’s opener will see Keeve Allicock battling with Stephon Gouveia in a featherweight fight over 4 rounds.
Meanwhile, Azore’s last defence of his title occurred in November 2012 when he defeated Mark Austin on points. He has since returned to Trinidad and Tobago and reports are that he has already confirmed his availability for the fight. He will intensify training in the Twin Island Republic before returning to Guyana to round off preparations.
