A fine all-round performance from Trevor Benn guided Police to a seven-wicket win over Fire Service when the Balram Raghubir Joint Service T20 competition continued on Wednesday last.
Benn captured 3-8 from two overs to help restrict Fire Service who batted first for 93-9 after the game was reduced to 15 overs, due to a late start at Eve Leary. Don Brandis scored 34 and Quacy Mentore 14. Benn then returned to stroke an unbeaten 46 as Police replied with 99-3 in 11 overs. Stephan Blacks cracked 35 not out.
At the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) ground, the host overcame Prison Service by 29 runs. GDF took first strike and were bowled out for 139 off their reduced quota of 16 overs. Leon Andrews led with 32 while Nakeithyo Nestor contributed 24.
Quain Proctor snared 3-13, Melvern Williams 2-28 and Kesrick Thompson 2-29. Prison Service replied with 110-7 in 16 overs. Tyrone Smith made 42 while Lionel Cave hit a 22-ball 40 and Carlton Cameron 22. Nester captured 3-23, Andre O Neil 2-18 and Mandeo Turner 2-31.
In the morning fixture at Eve Leary, Prison Service got the better of Fire Service by two wickets. Batting first, Fire Service managed 139-9 in 20 overs. Stephan Adams scored 29, Quacy Mentore 19 and Grayson Paul 14. Quain Proctor snared three scalps while Cameron and Kesrick Thomson had two each.
Prison Service reached 140-8 in 19.2 overs in reply. Carl Bowen slammed 49 (3×4 5×6) while Thompson hit 32 (4×4). Stephan Adams picked 3-20 and Malcolm Morris 2-15. At GDF, City Constabulary went down to Police by eight wickets.
City Constabulary were sent packing for 57 in 13.1 overs, taking first knock. Kishal Augustus (14), D. Whitney (12) and Devon Layne (10) were their leading batsmen. Eon Rodrigues grabbed 4-12, Brentnol Woolford 2-5 and Jason Mc Almont 2-6.
Rodrigues then returned to score an unbeaten 25 (1×4 3×6) as Police responded with 58-2 in 5.3 overs. D. Layne took 2-12. Previously, Fire Service defeated City Constabulary by 53 runs. Fire Service rattled up 181-2 in 20 overs, batting first. Stephan Adams struck 65, S. Neblette 42 and Morris 31.
City Constabulary mustered 128-8 in 20 overs in reply. A. Williams bagged 4-27 and S. Phillips 2-30. The competition concludes today. (Zaheer Mohamed)
