The Flying Stars Cycle club will be holding its Annual Victor Macedo Memorial Road Race sponsored by Macedo Transportation Services on Sunday September 11.
The race commences and concludes at the Ocean View Hotel, with the Seniors going to Abary, the Juniors to half (1/2) way tree and the Veterans and Ladies turning back at Mahaicony (going through the Old Road).
It will be a very lucrative race and the winners will receive top dollars. The race will be highly competitive as in addition to top cash prizes, all the country’s top riders will be participating including those heading for Jamaica the following weekend to participate in the Caribbean Elite Championships.
Junior Niles won the Seniors race last year, while the Juniors was won by Paul De Nobrega. However, these two will be hard pressed and unlikely to repeat as the top guns in cycling, Alonzo Greaves, Enzo Matthews, Geron Williams, Robin Persaud and Marc Lewis all have their eyes on that whopping $60,000 first prize.
The Juniors race should also be a thriller with Guyana’s two rising stars, Michael Anthony and Raynauth Jeffrey expected to give the experienced Paul De Nobrega and Neil Reece the battle of their lives as the Juniors prize will be $15,000.
Prize Structure is as follows:
Seniors – 1st $60,000, 2nd $40,000, 3rd $30,000, 4th $20,000, 5th $15,000, 6th $10,000
Juniors – 1st $15,000, 2nd $12,000, 3rd $10,000
Veteran – 1st $15,000, 2nd $12,000, 3rd $10,000
Ladies – 1st Prize $15,000, 2nd $10,000
There will be ten prime prizes of $1,000 each for the Seniors and Juniors, and six prime prizes of $1,000 each for the Veterans and Ladies.
