President of the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) Christopher Ram speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Pegasus Hotel to award winners of the MACORP Open Championships disclosed that the sport is anticipating change in fortune this year with the increase in infrastructural assets.
Ram, who was returned for a second term earlier in the year, revealed that the Association is eagerly awaiting the completion of the Non Pariel Racquet Centre and coupled with the expected rehabilitation of the facility at the National Park, tennis in Guyana could experience a turnaround and an increase in the players’ pool.
The GTA Head said that local Telecommunication Company GT&T has given a commitment to refurbish the courts at the National Park which according to him will definitely boost the assets for the sport to enjoy the kind of development that is long overdue.
He, also made known that the year will see heighten activity among the players, especially on the local scene with a number of tournaments scheduled to be played in the coming months.
Meanwhile, a number of outstanding performances were highlighted during the ceremony among them being Berbician Godfrey Lowden, who captured three Doubles titles, Omar Persaud with two, Andre Lopes, Shawna Gentle, Ezra Sue-Ho among others.
Sales Manager of MACORP Lyndon Bentin in his remarks stated how happy the Company was to be associated with the tournament and immediately promised continued support in the future.
He praised the Organisers for a well run tournament which according to him was executed at a high level, an aspect he said was recognised by them.
It must be noted also that a few players including veteran Carlos Adams in paying respect to the late tennis player David Persaud accepted their hardware and dedicated them in his memory.
