Defending champions Uprising recorded the largest margin of victory on day one of the 2009 Chubby sponsored Under-13 football competition for teams in the city.
Also recording wins were Alpha by way of walk over from Flamingo, Riddim Squad edged Renaissance by the odd goal in three, Thomas United hammered Georgetown Football Club 4-1 while Santos rebound from a two goal deficit to draw with Fruta Conquerors 3-3.
Playing at the Tucville ground, Uprising led by a helmet-trick from Keron Heywood, mauled Pele 8-0. Heywood found the back of the nets in the 9th, 49th, 53rd and 67th minutes.
He found able support from Wayne Murray who netted a double (4, 57) with one each from Damani Thomas (10) and Stephon Reynolds in the 61st.
Thomas, were too good for GFC, Joel Dash in the 13th, Andell Hatton (22nd), Kevin Andrews from the penalty spot in 52nd and Trevon Calendar in the 69th scoring one each for the winners. GFC got their consolation goal from Adion Parbhoo in the 48th.
Omali Henry and Aquill Liefile converted for Riddim Squad in their 2-1 win over Renaissance, hitting the back of the nets in the 62nd and 79th minute respectively. Jermaine Beckles pulled one back for Renaissance in the 52nd minute.
Fruta Conquerors created a two goal cushion over Santos by the 27th minute of their match up, Under-11 sensation Ryan ‘Bum Bum’ Hackett in the 23rd and Earnel Mc Kay (27) the players on target.
But Santos never backed off from the challenge and within a two minute burst drew level and even took the lead for the first time in the game.
In the 40th minute, Jerome Liddell tucked in Santos’ first goal and one minute later, Orin Yarde leveled the scores. To the surprise of the home team, Conquerors, Santos eased into the lead with a Travis Alexander 49th minute goal but the home team were able to take an even share of the spoils with the equalized in the 55th minute through Romelo Fraser.
Play will continue on Wednesday afternoon at the same venue with a single game between BK International Western Tigers and Camptown from 15:45hrs. (Franklin Wilson)
