Certificates were handed over to the industrial companies who participate in seabob fishing activities. Among them were the Pritipaul Singh Investments Inc, Noble House Seafoods, and Gopie Investment Inc.
The monitoring of the seabob fishing activity was conducted over a seven-year period in a public private collaboration between the Fisheries Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Guyana Association of Trawler Owners and Seafood Processors (GATOSP).
Technical work for the certification was conducted by the Seabob Working Group (SWG) which is a committee comprising Fisheries Department officials and industry’s representatives, with oversight from the Chief Fisheries Officer, Mr. Denzil Roberts, President of GATOSP, Mr. Ruben Charles, and the industry’s project manager, Mrs. Dawn Maison.
Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certification is an important step in demonstrating sustainable practices when harvesting marine resources.
Guyana was officially certified on the August 9, last and will be reviewed in 2022. It will provide unparalleled access to export markets for the certified companies.
