Skeldon Linepath Secondary (SLP) are the champion of the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) U17 Inter Secondary School cricket competition when the defeated Skeldon High School (SHS) in the final which was played last Friday at the Crabwood Creek Ground.
The two schools came out on top in the preliminary stages of the four schools’ competition which was played on a round robin basis. The competition was played on a one day two innings format with the first innings being for 40 overs.
Skeldon High batted first and made 141in 25 overs with Raul Jabbar top scoring with 53(7×4). He got support from Sarwan Chit with 39(3×4, 3×6), V. Sampat 17 and C. Munilall 13.
Bowling for Skeldon Linepath Secondary, S. Chattergoon was unplayable with figures of 5-13. In reply, SLP reached 168 in 34 overs T. Sookhu leading the way with 68(4×4), while V. Latchman contributed 19 and B. Nandalall 17. There was no significant contribution from the bowlers.
The game was called off at the end of the first innings due to time thus SLP winning on first innings.
At the end of the game SLP were presented with the winning Seddarth D’Andrade trophy and other goodies.
S. Chattergoon with his five-wicket haul was adjudged the man-of-the-match and he received a trophy.
The competition was sponsored by Seddarth D’Andrade of Upper Corentyne, who is the son of the President of the (UCCA), Dennis D’Andrade. The family has been sponsoring the competition since 2013.
The other schools that participated in the competition were Tagore Memorial Secondary School (TMSS) and Central Corentyne Secondary School (CCSS).
This UCCA Competition committee is headed by former national Wicketkeeper batsman Sydney Jackman. (Samuel Whyte)
