Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson, yesterday visited Cuyuni-Mazaruni area, Region Seven.
During the trip, the Minister was accompanied by the Regional Chairman, Gordon Bradford and number of other regional officers.
The Minister inspected a number of MPI projects including 5 Miles road and power distribution projects.
Very soon, the Ministry said, the 5 Miles housing scheme will for the first time have electrical power distributed to homes by a Government.
Electrical poles have already been planted throughout the community.
Minister Ferguson also visited the $205M Bartica Stelling project. The Stelling had been in a dangerous state.
The Minister was also accompanied by Deputy Mayor of Region Seven, Nageshwari Lochanprashad.
When completed, the new facility will have two floating ramps – one for speedboats and the other for ferries.
In addition to the new ramps, the Stelling will be outfitted with a modern air-conditioned waiting area with seating.
There will also be an immigration outpost along with an area to house the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD), in keeping with regulations to ensure that safety on the river is addressed.
The structure is being built by Courtney Benn Contracting Services Limited (CBCSL).
The project is expected to be completed by year-end.
