The Guyana Watch Medical Team is once again conducting its Medical and Dental Outreach Programme in various parts of Guyana.
The outreach began on Saturday with a very successful interaction at Patentia. On Sunday the team travelled to Rose Hall Estate Primary School, in East Canje, for another outreach where it provided both medical and dental services. It was the third such outreach in the Canje area. Hundreds of residents from East and West Canje, New Amsterdam, East Coast and East Bank Berbice and Corentyne were treated by the team of doctors and other medical staff. .
The team comprising both American and Guyanese consisted of 10 doctors —eight medical doctors and two dentists. The doctors had various fields of specialization. There were also two Pharmacists and a number of support staff.
Adults, children and babies were treated for various ailments including diabetes, hypertension, skin problems, cholesterol and other problems. Many were treated and sent away while a few were referred for further medical intervention.
During this year’s programme, the team expects to see well over 3,000 patients at six clinics across Guyana.
Speaking to the Media at the Rose Hall Estate Primary, President Tony Yassin stated that during the outreach they will distribute over US$400,000 in medication and conduct Medical and Health Counseling at the various clinics.
On Monday, the team visited the St Mary Primary school, Soesdyke; yesterday the team was at the Leonora Primary School to cater for the West Coast and West Bank Demerara.
Tomorrow, the team will be at the Timehri Primary School and will cater for residents in that area. The final visit will be on Friday at the Bath Primary School, West Coast Berbice.
Over the years, Guyana Watch has sent more than 60 children for heart surgeries in the United States and India. The team was also involved in eye surgeries in Guyana, kidney transplants and educational programmes. It has also provided over 10 University of Guyana scholarships, and financially assisted many others in Guyana for advanced medical treatment.
The team is continuing its humanitarian work, reaching out to underserved communities and providing the necessary assistance required.
It sees the yearly ventures as part of its patriotic duties and social responsibility of giving back to Guyana and its citizens.
