With Guyana looking to market its rice in other countries following a pullout from the Venezuelan
Markets the country in its bid to make way for new markets, will be participating in the upcoming Expo ANTAD (National Retailers Association of Mexico) and Alimentaria (Food) Mexico 2017 to put on display Guyana’s rice.
The event which is dedicated to purchasing managers and owners, will have on display food and drinks. It will also feature cleaning and personal hygiene products, furniture, technology and security systems.
On an invitation Ambassador of Mexico to Guyana, Ivan Sierra Medel, visited Berbice and met with rice millers and farmers. During his visit to the ancient county in December, several inroads were made and he expressed his interest in Guyana’s rice.
Almost three weeks ago the Region Six Office of the Prime Minister received a letter of interest to be a part of the Exhibition and Trade Event which is held annually.
Chairman of the Rice Millers Association, Rajendra Persaud, speaking with this publication expressed his interest in participating in the Food Expo in an effort to market Guyana’s rice.
“As chairman of the millers association we always look for better markets. We are hoping to sell to Mexico so we are taking this opportunity at this trade show”.
Mr. Persaud divulged that with it being an event of such magnitude it will serve as the perfect opportunity for the association to signal its intention to do business with Mexico. He
is also looking forward to another opportunity in the future to exhibit what Guyana has to offer, products such as coconuts and fish to the Mexican Markets.
The Guyana Rice Development Board will be sending two representatives whilst the Rice Millers Association will be sending three to represent Guyana. With Mexico’s main source of diet being corn, having rice penetrating its markets will see a great demand and supply of the product.
The Expo and Trade show will commence on March 7, next and will run until March 9, 2017. The highly anticipated event that will see 2,200 companies participating, 40,000 buyers and 15 countries participating is being hosted in Guadalajar, México.
It is Guyana’s first time participating.
