The Area ‘H’ Ground located in the township of Rose Hall would be a hive of activity on Sunday 18th of September, as the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club hosts a Day of Sports in honour of the 46th Anniversary celebration of Guyana’s smallest town.
The day’s events would be a 5/5 Cricket tournament sponsored by the Hand in Hand Insurance Company, an Inter Secondary School Football tournament sponsored by Balram Shane General Store and the Anamayah Memorial Hospital Inter Ward Basketball Tournament.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster, who is heading the organising committee for the Town Anniversary, stated that twelve teams would be taking part in the Hand in Hand Insurance 5/5 Cricket Tournament which bowls off at 9:30AM sharp. The teams would be clashing for close to $100,000 in prizes, while entrance fee for the tournament is free. Teams would however have to walk along with cricket balls and their own lunch. The twelve teams are Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘A’, Rose Hall Town Bakewell ‘B’, Rose Hall Town Metro Female, Young Achievers, Bush lot United, Good Bananen Land, Young and the Restless, Path Finders, Rose Hall Canje, Courtland, Belvedere United and Tamarind Roots.
The teams for the Inter Secondary School Football would be Lower Corentyne Secondary, J.C. Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant Secondary and Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary, while North and South Rose Hall would clash for the Basketball title. The Football and Basketball tournaments would start at 1:00PM and trophies along with a winner take all financial prize would be at stake.
Fans are invited to the Day of Sports and Foster disclosed that entrance into the venue is Free. Meanwhile, several teams has announced their squad for the 5/5 cricket tournament.
