– President urges fans to come out and support the new experiment
In what will be a first for motor racing in this country, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) will be hosting its second ‘Race of Champions’ Meet under floodlights on July 16, at the South Dakota Circuit, starting from 15:00 hrs.
Speaking with kaieteur Sport via telephone yesterday, President of the entity Raj Boodhoo said that even though racing fans will be witnessing a Race Meet under floodlights for the first time, he anticipates the turnout will be great, especially with most of the country’s top competitors scheduled to participate.
Boodhoo, who has returned for a second stint at the helm of motor racing, having served previously, has been attempting to inject more life into the sport with Endurance and Drag racing enjoying heightened success this year.
Among the competitors listed to compete are Danny Persaud, Kevin Jeffrey, Elliott, Stephen and Matthew Vieira, Rameeze Mohamed, Irfaan Kalamadeen, Andrew King, Roshan Ali, Shairaz Roshandin among others.
Boodhoo revealed that with the second leg of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship around the corner, competitors will no doubt be using the Meet to test their machines readiness and competitiveness for the upcoming event in Trinidad and Tobago.
He also cited that because it’s a new attempt, he believes that fans and competitors alike will be eager to see if the new experiment under lights is a success.
He urged lovers of the sport to come out and see top local drivers and riders go at each other in a battle for supremacy under floodlights.
