A Senior Drug Inspector along with the Principal Analytic Scientific Officer from the Government
Analyst-Food and Drug Department will be traveling to Bangkok, Thailand to participate in a Quality Management Systems (QMS) workshop.
The World Health Organisation Workshop on “Sensitization towards Quality Management systems for National Regulatory Authorities (NRA)” will be held over five days from Monday.
Senior Drug Inspector, Ms. Fabiola Robertson, along with Principal Analytic Scientific Officer, Ms. Tandika Barton, who both have extensive experience at the Government Analyst-Food and Drug Department, will be representing Guyana at the forum. Ms. Robertson has held her current position since 2006 while Ms. Barton has held hers since 2014.
Among the objectives of the workshop are: to Seek managerial Commitment in NRA’s to establish, implement, maintain or improve the quality management system if it exists and to define or update the minimum requirements for establishing or improving the QMS in the NRA’s.
The major responsibility of a NRA is to safeguard Public Health in an expedient manner under both normal
and Public Health emergency situations by ensuring the quality, safety and efficacy of medical products available on the national market.
Expected Outcomes of the workshop include: the Technical and financial support needed for the NRA’s to establish, Implement, and maintain the chosen QMS identified and awareness raised and commitment obtained from upper level managers in NRA’s to establish, implement and maintain a QMS that encompasses all regulatory functions and that meets international standards.
