GCF National C/ships dates adjusted
The Guyana Cycling Association of North America (GCANA) through its representative Mr. Victor Rutherford made a timely donation of championship jersey’s to the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) for their National
Championships which will now be held on June 18th, 25th and 26th.
Saturday June 18th will see the juniors, veterans and ladies battling in the Road Race which will be contested at the Mahaicony Circuit, this will be the first time this event will be hosted at this venue as the federation seek involve other communities outside of the traditional, Georgetown.
The juniors and veterans will cover a distance of 50 miles each which is 8.5 laps around the circuit. The ladies will cover half that distance. Race time is 11:00hrs.
There will be a one week break before the Time Trials are held at the same circuit on June 25th; all categories will be competing from 08:00hrs. On Sunday June 26th, the Elite (senior) riders will take centre stage for their Road Race which will be contested around the outer circuit of the National Park.
Riders will need to endure 30-laps of what is anticipated to be fierce competition with all the overseas based cyclists expected to be back home for this marquee event, the most prestigious on the GCF’s calendar.
Competitors from the 11 affiliated clubs of the GCF are in preparation mode for what is expected to be the most competitive national championships; those clubs are Alanis, Carlton Wheelers, Team Coco’s, Continental, Flying Ace, Flying Stars, Linden Bauxite Flyers, Roraima Bikers, Team Evolution, Trojan and United We Stand.
Team Coco’s Hamza Eastman currently competing overseas is the defending champion for the Elite category, Road Race and Time Trials. UK based Female Claire Fraser-Green is the defending Female Champion of both the Road Race and Time Trials.
GCF First Vice President and Chairman of the Racing Committee Paul Choo-Wee-Nam received the jerseys from GCANA Victor Rutherford and expressed sincere gratitude to the donors for their timely contribution while recognizing them for their continuous support. (Franklin Wilson)
