The curtains are expected to come down this evening in the West Side ‘Guinness Greatest of the Streets’ Futsal Competition, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac, West Demerara.
The final will pit homesters Pouderoyen Showstoppers against the upstarted Shattaville Gunners in what is anticipated to be a pulsating showdown for the coveted title.
The two teams are already assured of places in the national final by virtue of being the top two teams in the competition.
Showstoppers, last year’s beaten finalist will no doubt be aiming to go one step further this time around, but they are going up against a team that has looked the most impressive to date in the tournament and must be brimming with confidence despite the homecourt advantage going to their opponents.
However, the Gunners have shown that they are a resilient bunch that is laden with players of exceptional skills who exhibit tremendous speed suitable for the format.
They will be depending on the in-form Jeuel Stephens, Jalen Williams, Marvin Henry and Stephon Griffith to lead their charge for victory and the top prize of receive $300,000.
On the other hand, Showstoppers have long relied on two of their marquee players to instigate their wins in Anthony Harding and Marvin Josiah, both of whom have been in terrific form throughout the tournament.
These two players are among the most consistent scorers in the competition’s history on the West Side and halting their pursiut of more goals could prove to be a daunting task for the Gunners.
The losing finalist will receive $200,000 and a trophy.
The third place playoff is between Brothers United and Harmony Ballers and this encounter should favour the latter after their outstanding semi-final performance against Showstoppers.
Should they reproduce that display it means that Brothers United are in for a rough ride.
Up for grabs is $100,000 for the winner, while the loser receives $50,000.
Another massive outpouring is expected, especially with the host Showstoppers bidding for the title and bragging rights.
