Guyana’s Lionel D’Andrade is on a roll early in his 2013 season after defending his Trinidad and Tobago International Half Marathon title on Sunday. D’Andrade had also won the Suriname 10km Road Race for the third time two weeks ago.
“Despite the fact that I twisted my ankle one week prior to the race yesterday (Sunday), I ran a warm-up 5k on Saturday and I felt good for the Half Marathon,” D’Andrade told this newspaper yesterday, after beating 298 athletes on Sunday.
D’Andrade completed the race in 1:20.02, split seconds ahead of Trinidad’s Kade Sobers, who ran 1:20.15 for second and Shirvan Baboolal who was third with 1:22.09 respectively. Trinidad and Tobago’s ace, Tonya Nero won the female race in 1:23.42 with the United States’ Michelle La Fleur (1:25.32) second and Jenelle Nedd (1:34.07) third.
