Bakery giants Bakewell, the only corporate entity in Guyana to have full time sponsorship
of two football teams, Bakewell Topp XX, the most successful team in the Kashif & Shanghai tournament and Bakewell Buxton Stars, added more dough towards the successful hosting of the 22nd edition of the Kashif & Shanghai Extravaganza.
Yesterday, Manager of the entity, Rajin Ganga handed over a cheque for a substantial amount to Co-Director of the group Kashif Muhammad in the presence of fellow Director Aubrey ‘Shanghai’ Major.
In brief remarks, Ganga expressed delight at continuing the partnership with the tournament, noting that the company has seen real growth of Guyana’s football over the years of its {tournament} existence.
“Bakewell’s track record when it comes to supporting sports and its development, and in this particular instance football, is well documented in this country and beyond. We have been committed to ensuring the growth of this sport and others and will continue to fulfill this corporate mandate.”
Bakewell he reminded has been very supportive of the ‘Golden Jaguars’ in their quest for World Cup glory and will be in the forefront in terms of tangible support as the Jaguars seek to make it to the 2014 finals in Brazil.
“Bakewell would like to congratulate the GFF, technical staff and players once again for making this country proud by qualifying for the third stage for the first time in our history. The Guyana Football Federation and the Golden Jaguars can be sure of our continued support.”
Ganga offered congratulations to the 20 teams that will be competing in the 22nd edition of the Kashif & Shanghai tournament which is set to kick off on Saturday at the GCC Ground Bourda with a double header.
The traditional opening ceremony will be held after the opening game between Mill Ballers of Bartica and East Bank Demerara’s Kuru Kururu Lions. The feature game brings together Pele and another East Bank team, Timehri Panthers.
