Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets (RHTG&G) are favoured to take the Universal DVD Club Berbice t20 cricket
title when they face Memorex Bermine in today’s Final at Blairmont from 13:00hrs.
Universal DVD Club Young Warriors and host Blairmont will battle for the third place from 09:00hrs after losing their semi-final at the same venue last Monday.
RHTG&G have dominated Berbice cricket in recent times and on a track expected to be a slow turner, Bermine could have a titanic battle on their hands as they hunt their first division one title since Nolan McKenzie’s century led them to championship honours at Albion in 1991.
There are some internal issues at RHTG&G involving National players Assad Fudadin and Royston Crandon but even if they opt not to play today the Corentyne side still should possess a formidable line-up.
While Fudadin and Crandon are their key batsmen, Renrick Batson is the only batsman with two half centuries in the competition, while wicketkeeper Delbert Hicks and Guyana Under-19 batsman Dominic Rikhi have also scored half-centuries.
National under-19 all-rounder Clinton Pestano and Berbice player Rajiv Ivan also gives RHTG&G batting fire-power.
While Pestano, Batson and Fudadin should provide the pace bowling, RHTG&G’s strength could be their slow bowlers. Ivan has two four-wicket hauls, and should get spin support from Crandon, Eon Hooper, Khemraj Mahadeo and Shawn Pereira.
Bermine will depend on the experience of Devon Clements, the talented Eugene LaFluer, who has scored the competition’s only ton, his brother Jomal, Keion De Jesus, who has a half century under his belt and former Guyana Under-15 batsman Romario De Jonge.
Wicketkeeper batsman Ishwar Singh and Guyana off-spinner Stephen Latcha could also produce runs at this level for the New Amsterdam side.
Latcha, Clements, Joemal La Fleur, Andel De Jonge and Troy Mickle will provide the spin with support from Seamers Romario De Jonge and Julian Moore.
A large crowd is anticipated especially since Blairmont, which include Test pacer Brendon Bess, will come up against one of the more talented limited overs batsmen in Richard Ramdeen and his versatile younger brother Kevin Ramdeen for Young Warriors in the day’s curtain raiser.
After all the hard work in reaching the Final, today is the moment of truth for both teams as they battle for the $60,000 first prise and the winner’s trophy.
