An excavator operator, formerly from Bartica and the Essequibo Coast, is feared dead after being involved in a boat accident on Saturday night, in Bartica.
According to information, Junior Joseph, 30, along with three other persons were traveling out of the interior in a boat when it reportedly capsized while they were navigating the Warauni Falls.
Reports further indicated that Joseph went down but his three other colleagues were later discovered during a search for the boat’s passengers.
Speaking to Kaieteur News yesterday, Joseph’s grieving wife Annie Joseph tearfully said she learnt of her husband’s misfortune early on Sunday morning after she received a telephone call.
Mrs. Joseph said she last spoke to her husband last week Saturday and he indicated to her that he planned on returning to the Coast this coming Friday.
She told this newspaper that upon learning of the tragedy of her husband, she immediately traveled to Bartica.
The couple was married almost 11 years and has two children, Brandon, seven and Tia six.
Joseph’s employer also ventured to the mining community to garner help in locating his body.
Joseph was described as hard working and jovial.
One of Joseph’s friend Farida Mohamed said she was saddened when she learnt of the news of the young man, since she last spoke to him recently and he had indicated that he was planning a thanksgiving for a new house he had constructed and wanted her to prepare some dishes.
