Guyanese cricketers continue to shine in the various competitions being played in Trinidad and Tobago at a time when club cricket in this country is arguably at an all-time low due to lack of financial and other opportunities for club cricketers in Guyana.
The national two-day championship league in Trinidad continued over the weekend and the Guyanese pair of First Class player Deon Ferrier and Kellon Carmichael combined with useful all-round performances to spur their team Aranguez to victory against the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force.
The Defence force won the toss and batted first n were bowled out for 176 with Deon Ferrier taking 3-26 and Kellon Carmichael 2-40. In return Aranguez made 268 with Ferrier returning to make 77 and Carmichael 55 not out also Michael brown 30. Batting a second time defense force were all out for 182 with Rakesh Seecharran 4-44 Ferrier 2-39 and Vikash Mohan 2-50. Needing 90 for victory from 10 overs could only manage 80-4 with Carmichael 26 being the top scorer. Aranguez got 17 point to move 6 points behind league bamboo with three games to go.
And former Guyana First-Class opener Ryan Ramdass, who played his only Test match in Sri Lanka in 2005, fell four short of a century as his team Bamboo, lost first innings in a drawn encounter to UTT led by former Berbice and Guyana youth batsman Anthony D’Andrade who made 44.
Meanwhile, in the latest round of matches played last weekend at the Debe Cricket Ground in the Senior Championship Division, Debe Youth Foundation lost on 1st Innings to Hillpiece Cricket Club as former GCC all-rounder Paul Bevaun scored 69 and 19 not out after taking 2-24 with his medium pace for Debe Youth Foundation.
His team mate Ron Ramnauth, the DCC batsman, scored 28 and 34 and captured 3-42 in the match while Ramnauth’s 17-year-old nephew Mohan Ramnauth, in his debut season in Trinidad’s cricket, scored 30 and 27.
Debe Youth Foundation are currently third in the division and with three catches remaining are still hopeful of winning the division to be promoted to National two next year. Petrotrin are the current leaders. Bevaun has so far scored 408 runs at an average of 84.65 with a highest score of 142 runs and 21 wickets while Ron Ramnauth has 225 runs at an average of 39.47. He also has 10 wickets.
Mohan Ramdeen has totaled 360 runs at an average of 47.63 with a highest score of 159 runs and he also has taken 21 wickets. (Sean Devers)
