Subsequent to a two day delay because of rain, the University of Guyana Inter-Faculty Twenty20 cricket competition got underway last Wednesday with defending champions, Faculty of Technology, defeating last year’s finalist, Faculty of Natural Sciences, to stay on course to retain their title.
Natural Sciences called correctly and elected to bat amidst lovely weather conditions. They lost Vishal Mohabir for two in the second over paving the way for M. Chetram who joined M. Itwaru, the two putting on a fine display of batting to resurrect the innings somewhat. At the end of the allotted 20 overs, Natural Sciences had compiled 128 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
In reply, Rudolph Mc Donald lashed 27 (2×4, 1×6) with support from Kumar’s Bridgelall who contributed a brilliant unbeaten half century (54*) to support his earlier bowling efforts, led Technology to victory in 16.2 overs.
Captain, Godfrey Thakurdin also contributed 18 which included a solitary boundary. The tournament continued yesterday with UG Staff coming up against Faculty of Social Sciences. Results of this match will appear in a subsequent edition.
