Up to press time yesterday, Guyana Power Light (GPL) maintenance division was working to correct the power outage that affected hundreds residents of Parfait Harmonie and Canal Number One.
Residents of the affected communities had said that they were experiencing power outages since Friday last.
Some residents explained that recently, whenever there is electricity it would fluctuate sometimes destroying their electrical appliances and contributing to their frustration.
Some residents said that they have incurred substantial financial losses when the absence of power caused their freezers and refrigerators to defrost and their meats, vegetables and other items to spoil.
The GPL call center said that crews were being dispatched to the locations that were affected by the low voltage and power outage.
It was also noted that due to the rainy weather, the maintenance crews were not able to locate the specific faults that led to the low voltages and power outages.
According to one GPL official, the theft of electricity is a major issue affecting the company.
He said that some persons are using welding equipments on the GPL system that is not assigned or incapable of taking the load.
