Police were last night scouring the backlands at Hampshire, Corentyne, for three bandits who shot a watermelon vendor from the community.
Reports reaching Kaieteur News indicate that the victim, Hansraj Samaroo, known as ‘Tiger’, was in his Russell Street, Hampshire, home around 21:00 hrs when the men, who were armed with a ‘long gun’, invaded the premises and shot him in his left groin.
The robbers then fled the scene.
It is unclear whether they managed to steal anything.
The wounded man was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where his condition is reportedly listed as critical.
Police have received information that the bandits fled toward the Hampshire backlands. Up to press time, several TSU ranks were in the area trying to locate the suspects.
