– batting the main focus right now
Coach of the West Indies team Otis Gibson speaking with the media shortly after a practice session at the DCC ground yesterday, admitted that the guys are a little low on confidence right now, especially after the drubbing they received Down Under.
Gibson, who took over the job from interim coach David Williams flatly, denied that there was complacency in the team, adding that that was something he had discussed with the guys before the tour started.
“The strategy is very simple it is for the team to do well and obviously we’ve done a review of the last game and will be aiming to correct our faults,” Gibson said.
He pointed out that the wicket in Trinidad was very conducive to spin and the Zimbabweans exploited it better than they did.
The former England bowling Coach, however, revealed that he has seen little signs that show confidence is returning to the team and with Chris Gayle back at the helm, they should be much stronger now.
He indicated that everyone knows their individual responsibility and role that is required in the team and he expects them to play their part.
Gibson said that the team will continue to focus on their batting which has been disappointing to say the least. He felt that the bowling is strong enough to restrict the visitors to manageable totals, but it is all about getting what is set for victory.
Quizzed on the possible team selection, Gibson said that the panel has picked a strong squad and he expects the best possible team will be picked to suit the conditions come tomorrow.
The Squad selected is: Chris Gayle (capt), Adrian Barath, Sulieman Benn, David Bernard, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Andre Fletcher, Nikita Miller, Kieron Pollard, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Smith.
