Although his injuries are healing, the teenage boy who was brutalised by two rogue policemen is displaying signs that indicate that he is still traumatised by his ordeal, his parents disclosed yesterday.
Shirley Thomas and Doodnauth Jaikarran believe that the lad is in need of counselling, since he occasionally displays signs of anger and is also frustrated that the suspects are not in custody.
The parents told Kaieteur News that they had received $5,000 and a hamper from the Ministry of Human Services.
However, they said no one at the Ministry has offered to counsel the injured boy.
“If we could get it (counselling) we would be very glad,” Mr. Jaikarran said.
The teen was arrested on October 22 in relation to a current murder investigation and while in custody he was allegedly beaten and burnt around his genital area by two policemen at the Leonora Police Station.
The ranks, Sergeant Narine Lall and Constable Mohanram Dolai were charged this week for unlawfully and maliciously wounding the now 15-year-old boy, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm.
However, only Constable Dolai appeared in court when the case came up before Magistrate Priya Beharry this week at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Lall, Dolai and Corporal Oswald Foo were also charged for unlawfully wounding Deonarine Rafick and Nouravie Wilfred while the men were in police custody.
