A 48-year-old farmer from Pomona Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, died on Tuesday at the Suddie Public Hospital after he had consumed a quantity of Gramoxone.
According to information reaching this newspaper the man, Nehru Singh, consumed the poisonous substance at one of his relatives in Pomona, shortly after noon, moments after he left his residence following a heated argument with his wife Meena.
The report further stated that Singh was seen consuming the poisonous substance from a bottle.
A post mortem confirmed death by poisoning.
And police on the Essequibo Coast are investigating a robbery that took place around 09:30 hrs on Tuesday at Onderneeming.
Housewife Karen Baird was robbed of $25,000 at Onderneeming Road, while she was making her way to pay her bills.
According to a police report two men, who have so far eluded capture, approached Baird and reached for her purse but came up empty handed.
According to the report, one man then pulled out a knife which he pointed at Baird and subsequently pushed his hand into her pocket, relieving her of the money. Both men then made their escape.
