The Guyana Football Referees Council (GRFC) has answered the call of the Blood Bank and yesterday, a number of executive and ordinary members made contributions of one unit each, which has boosted the entity’s supply.
General Secretary of the GRFC Laura Obermuller disclosed that this effort falls under their community outreach programme and would be done in the other parts of Guyana where they have membership.
“Today (yesterday) is the first of three more sessions to come and leading off this drive to assist the Blood Bank are some of our executive members and during the course of the day other referees will be donating as well.”
Obermuller further informed that this drive will be taking place every three months. Over the weekend, the Council ran a beginners referees programme in the Ancient County of Berbice as they seek to increase the referee’s pool nationwide.
Similar programmes are slated for Georgetown, Linden, East Demerara, East Bank, West Demerara and Bartica.
Local referees have continued to excel on the regional and international scenes and this is due largely to the solid foundation gained from locally run programmes.
