STANLEYTOWN, NEW AMSTERDAM – An autopsy is expected to be performed later today on the body of 21-month-old Attiea McAllister of 54 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam.
The child’s 15-year-old sibling and father remain in police custody as the probe into the circumstances into the child’s death continues.
According to police reports, the 15-year old girl told detectives that a spiritual being instructed her to kill the toddler.
There were no marks of violence on the baby’s body, however.
Police are relying on the findings of the autopsy.
The child was reportedly left in the care of the father and two older siblings when the killing took place at their home on Wednesday.
Initial reports from within the community stated that a ‘jumbie’ reportedly told the 15-year-old to strangle her baby sister.
On another occasion the ‘jumbie’ told her to poison the child.
When the child’s mother returned home some time during the morning, she found the toddler lying apparently lifeless.
The source said that a nurse was summoned who claimed that she felt a weak pulse on the child.
The toddler was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Reports further suggested that some time Wednesday morning the father visited the Central Police Station in New Amsterdam to report that the baby had died at the New Amsterdam Hospital. The report did not indicate that foul play was suspected.
According to a source, later in the afternoon, an anonymous caller informed ranks at the Central Police Station that it was murder.
Subsequently the 15-year old and her father were detained.
