J.C Chandisingh Secondary School turned back the lively challenge of Lower Corentyne Secondary School in the finals of the Berbice Cellink Inter-Secondary School Volleyball competition which was contested at the Area ‘H’ Ground and attracted eight teams.
Brilliant teamwork backed up by equally good crowd support saw J.C Chandisingh rebounding in style to take the 2nd and 3rd sets after giving up a very close 1st set 24-25.
But the champions found an unstoppable rhythm that saw them taking the remaining sets
At 22 and 23 to take home the championship trophy and close to $100,000 in prizes which included volleyballs, Tee Shirts and educational Kits.
Lower Corentyne for their efforts received two volleyballs and $30,000 in educational kits.
Meanwhile, in the semi finals Lower Corentyne defeated the New Amsterdam Secondary in straight sets 15-10, 15-12 while J.C. Chandisingh got past Berbice High 15-14, 15-13. Orwin Noel of Lower Corentyne was named Best Spiker, Surendra Mootipersaud of J.C. Chandisingh Best Setter and svhool mate Jason Seelochan the Most Valuable Player of the finals.
The other competing schools were presented with two volleyballs each.
Secretary/CEO of the organizing club, Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, Hilbert Foster, at the presentation hailed the outstanding player of all the teams and expressed surprise at the high standard of playing that was displayed especially in the finals.
He pledged the club’s continued involvement in promoting the sport in Region 6 and also disclosed that Region 6 schools would be involved in chess, basketball, table tennis and football competitions during the September term, another initiative of the RHTY&SC.
This forms part of the club’s continuing efforts to offer sports as an alternative to a life of drugs and crime.
Foster expressed gratitude to Cellink Plus and its Marketing Director Wynston Robertson for their constant support of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.
Special mention was also made of Gregory Rambarran of DTV Channel 8 who donated the winners’ trophy and assisted with technical advice.
