Sterling all-round performances by Clyde Hoyte and Oslyn Batson handed Transport Sports Club (TSC) a 28-run victory over Guyana Defence Force (GDF) when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA)/New Building Society (NBS) second division 40-over tournament continued last weekend.
Hoyte and Batson rescued TSC with a 95-run eight wicket stand after they were reduced to 56-7, batting first at Gandhi Youth Organisation ground on Saturday. Batson top scored with 47 (7×4,1×6) while Hoyte struck 44 (5×4,2×6). Kevin Ross chipped in with 18 as TSC managed 187 before they were bowled out in 32.2 overs.
Paul O’Neil bagged 6-27 and Jeremiah Harris 2-12. GDF threatened somewhat before they were sent packing for 159 in 32 overs in reply. Travis Blyden stroked 49 (6×4,1×6) while Dennis Legay made 19, O Neil 17 and Ravi Persaud 16. Hoyte grabbed 4-34 and Shawn Massiah 3-24. The game was reduced to 35 overs.
At Everest, GNIC defeated the host by 17 runs. Batting first GNIC posted 194 all out in 35 overs. Joshua Persaud led with 64; Clyde Butts scored 30 and Rawl Merrell 29. Riyad Sattaur claimed 3-25.
Everest lost an early wicket, but Mandrekar Bhola and Khemraj Ramdeen steadied the chase with a second wicket stand of 114 with sensible batting.
But their separation triggered a collapse as the rest of batting folded meekly and Everest were bowled out for 177 in 33.4 overs. Bhola slammed 76 and Ramdeen 46. Merrell captured 3-30, Alistair Ifill 2-15 and Orlando Kirton 2-17.
At Muslim Youth Organisation, Third Class overcame Ace Warriors by five wickets. Ace Warriors took first strike and were skittled for 110 in 24.1 overs. Trevor Hussain snared 3-10 and Alvin Castello 3-16. Third Class replied with 111-5 in 16.1 overs. Castello cracked 31 and Shawn Garnette 29.
Yesterday at Everest, Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) thumped the home team by five wickets. Everest took first turn at the crease and scored 144 all out in 39 overs.
Mandrekar Bhola made 31 and Ramdin Persaud 28; Winston Forrester and Devon Lord picked up three wickets each and Joshua Wade two. GCC responded with 145-5 in 24 overs.
