The Police in B Division (East Berbice Corentyne) Regions Five and Six Led by Commander, Assistant Commissioner Brian Joseph and second in charge Senior Superintendent Stephen Mansel continue to do an exceptional job in the
community Outreach programme in the region.
On Wednesday Mansel and a team of officers, including Assistant Superintendent Guy Nurse and Inspector Seseupaul Jhagroo, met travelled over 20 miles on the East Bank Berbice Public Road and met with residents from a number of villages including Julianasburgh, Macaw and Plegt Anker. During the interactive session a number of topics were discussed including youth development and the promotion of sports.
After the discussions the eager residents along with the visiting team of police officers decided immediately to form a youth and sports group in the area. The main aim is to have the youths and other residents adequately occupied with recreational activities.
Mansel, who was the main speaker, pointed out that youths have an important role to play in the development of Guyana and they are making use of every opportunity to have them meaningfully utilized.
The senior police officer stated that he is heartened by the response of residents of the villages. He told them that- “I would like to see our efforts ‘bear fruits’, so that you can achieve great heights and be role model for the youths of tomorrow.”
After the formation of the youth and sports group, Mr. Mansel presented sport equipment to the acting headmistress of the Plegt Anker School, Ms. Monalissa Dukhie .The group will be assembling at the Plegt Anker School for formal meetings, while they will be utilising the ball-field to participate in sporting activities. The communities have no access to potable water, electricity and land line telephone service.
