Top seeds in the Men’s Doubles Jeremy Miller and Jason Andrews wrapped up a straight sets win over Nicholas Fenty and Leyland Leacock in the Men’s Double final of the 2012 Pegasus Open championships, claim their third doubles title for the year in the process.
The win also put Miller on course to win three titles after he had teamed up with Shelly Ramdyhan to win the Mixed Doubles title getting past Godfrey Lowden and Carol Humphrey.
The game started off with both pairs holding serve until 4 – 3 before Leacock’s serve was broken to cede the advantage.
Miller and Andrews always looked in control in the first set as Leacock and Fenty struggled with the timing of their shots resulting in a lot less winners than they hit in previous matches. Miller’s steady serve and Andrews’ good coverage of the net complimented each other’s game well.
The first set ended 6-3 when Miller served out the set. Fenty and Leacock stepped up their games in the second set and raced off to a 4-0 lead before Miller held serve to get onto the scoreboard. Despite getting ahead 5-2 and a chance to even the match at 1 set apiece, Leacock and Fenty played conservatively which allowed Miller and Andrews to storm back and win the next five games to claim the title.
The tournament winds down this evening (Wednesday) with the Ladies final being played between 14 year-old Nicola Ramdyhan and veteran Carol Humphrey at 16:00hrs. The Men final will follow between the winner of the matches between Gavin Lewis versus Jeremy Miller and Anthony Downes vs Leyland Leacock.
The presentation ceremony will follow after the Men’s final. The tournament lasted for almost three weeks of competition.
