D’Edward Cricket club on Sunday upstaged defending Champions and host Blairmont Blazers to win won the second edition of the one day 20/20 four team knockout cricket competition played at the Blairmont Community Centre ground.
The four team competition also involved Cotton Tree Die Hard Rangers and United Warriors.
In preliminary play which was reduced to 10 overs D’Edward defeated Cotton Tree Die Hard by eight wickets. Cotton Tree batted first and made 54-6 in their allotment. D’ Edward in reply reached 55-2 in 8 overs with Dereck Narine scoring 36. He also received the player of the match award.
In the other preliminary game Blairmont whipped United Warriors by seven wickets. Scores: Warriors took first strike and were all out for 57in 9.3 overs to which Blairmont replied with 58-3 in seven overs with Davendra Lalsa scoring 27 and D. Prashad 17 not out. Lalsa was adjudged player of the match.
In the finals D’ Edward batted first in the 15 over affair and rattled up 136-7 with Eon Abe making 42 and Keith Fraser 27. Blairmont in reply were restricted to 96-9 with Omesh Mangal making 27. Abel was adjudged man of the match in the finals and player of the tournament.
The winning team received $50,000 and a trophy compliments Of Universal, while the runners- up collected $30,000 and a trophy compliments of Banks DIH Limited.
Apart from the on- field action, ice cream, toys and air horns were given away to children. The event was held to raise funds to execute the club’s programme for 2012, as well as to spread Christmas joy to the children.
