The Guyana Draughts Association would be holding its Annual National Draughts competition on October 29 and 30 at the Mildred Mansfield Youth Club (Dorcas Club) Durban Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
On Saturday 29th the open International Draughts (100 square-boards) would be played. In this game, prospects to join the National team for upcoming international tournaments would be the chief focus. While on Sunday 30th the regular game on the sixty-four squares would be played. This game would be played in the A B and C divisions.
Registration for both days starts at 10:00am and games begin at 10:30am. Registration fee is $300 per player in both games. Participants are asked to be on time to have the game commenced and conclude in the allotted time.
Jairam, who played undefeated in Suriname and Ulric Braithwaite, who also performed creditable in their recent tour, should be the players to contend with in the Saturday’s event, while Carlton Simon and Khemraj Pooranmall could also be in the reckoning.
On Sunday in the ‘A’ Division, the current local champion Elton Lambert will be seeking to defend his title against Carlton Simon and Wilfred Robinson. While Godfrey George, who will be making his debut in this division, can also be a strong contender.
The ‘B’ Division would once again be the highlight of the day, with Elridge Grandison, Jairam and Ulric Brathwaite are expected to be in the final showdown.
Trophies and other prizes would be at stake. All Draughts players countrywide, both professionals and Novices are invited to participate in this Major event.
