Just like last Saturday with perfect control on field, the Guyana Defence Force proclaimed their victory in the Rugby Seven’s League at the National Park Rugby ground, yesterday with an ideal score of 10 points to win from both opponents.
Yamaha Caribs and Hornets were no match for the champs of the league. Yamaha Caribs lost 7-5 to Hornets and 10-5 to GDF in their first and second match respectively in the final round of Rugby Seven’s League, while the champs ripped Hornets to pieces 10-0.
The Hornets account was opened with a tri from Troy Arjune on the third minute of the first half of the game as Ryan Gonsalves registered they only successful conversion for the day to close the account of his team at 7. Vallon Adams’ luck continued from last Saturday’s game as he was the only player to register a tri for the Yamaha Caribs. His effort came on the 2nd minute of the second half.
Yamaha Caribs tried to redeem themselves in the second game of the final round of the league; however their redemption was unsuccessful as the powerhouse GDF registered two tries which came from the competitive winger, Breon Walks. Again, the lucky Adams cataloged a tri for the Yamaha Caribs in the fourth minute of the first half. The energetic Walks logged his two tries on the third and seventh minutes of the last half of the game despite a fierce tackle from winger, Carl Lewis.
The final match of the league saw Hornets and GDF battling for supremacy since they both won one game apiece, but GDF already had it sorted out in fine details. They took what was rightfully theirs’ as they clinched the game with a 10-nil win.
The first tri came from Joseph Rahaman on the second minute of the first half while the victory tri came from Rodwell Hutson on the sixth minute of last half.
With two consecutive wins from the second and third round of the Rugby Seven’s League, Guyana Defence Force were declared the victors as Hornets and Yamaha Caribs were second and third respectively. (Juanita Hooper)
