Coach Forbes Daniels is disappointed at the state of cricket in South Essequibo. Daniels recently told Kaieteur sport that there are a number of grounds in the area but none is in proper playing condition. He said that no one is making an effort to cut the grounds and the young talented cricketers are badly affected.
“To improve cricket you have to play cricket, we have a number of talented cricketers who can go a far way but how can they train?” stated Daniels.
Players like national U-19 left arm spinner Anthony Adams and former Guyana U-15 batsman Mark Gonsalves are among the players who expressed their disappointment to this newspaper.
Adams said that his aim is to retain his place in the national U-19 team this year but the lack of suitable grounds is hampering his preparation.
Gonsalves a talented opening batsman stated that he wants to make the Essequibo inter county U-19 team but can hardly train.
Daniels further went on to say that South Essequibo recently won the Good Wood U-19 50-over competition while they have also done well at the senior level winning the Busta Limited overs tournament for a number of years. Daniels further went on to say that he made several requests to get the grounds cut but to no avail and is calling on the authorities to assist so that cricket can get started in the area.
