Digicel in association with the Bartica Football Association (BFA), held a three-day football extravaganza last weekend, at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
Seven Clubs competed for honours, which included a first prize of $80,000 and second $20,000.
Rising Star edged Beacons 1-0 to claim the winners’ purse.
In Friday’s triple-header, Wolves prevailed over Mil Ballers United on penalty kicks, after a 1-1 draw. Potaro FC went down 2-0 to Rising Stars and Beacons FC swamped Lazio 5-1.
Saturday night’s semi-finals saw a 3–2
victory for Beacons against Wolves, thanks to a Whitney Welcome hat-trick, whilst Rising Stars edged Rivers View on penalty kicks after a 1–1 stalemate at regulation time.
Sunday’s final between Beacons and Rising Stars was complemented by the BFA Under-15 final between Wolves United and River’s View, which was sponsored by Rico Persaud and won by Wolves United 1- 0. Also on the card was a women’s exhibition game, which Striking Dolls defeated Water Lilies 2–1.
The Digicel final turned out to be an exciting match that fluctuated throughout the 90 minutes, but was settled by a lone goal, when a Kevin Josiah header found the back of the net in the 74th minute to give Rising Stars victory.
Other incentives given out included: Digicel’s cash contribution to both Under-15 and female teams; Most Valuable Player Award, donated by the 7th Avenue Workshop and won by Rising Star goalkeeper Kenzo Baksh and the First Goal Scorer award, donated by Melbourne Mahadeo and I. Salam.
