In brilliant sunshine, National Race Walk champion, Rudolph Mitchell extended his winning streak with another dominant showing to win the Cavaliers Sports and Tour Club and the Burnham Foundation ‘Burnham Memorial Race Walk’ last Sunday.
The event marked the 23rd death anniversary of former Executive President of Guyana Linden Forbes Sampson Burnham.
In the second position was Jeremy Cornelius with Maurice Fagundes and Lisa Bobb in the third and fourth spots respectively. Trophies and other prizes were donated by Mr. Albert Hinds of Hinds Poultry Farm.
The race commenced at the WRSM Headquarters on Public Road and Vlissengen Road, Kitty and proceeded to Seven Ponds Botanical Gardens for the finish.
In presenting the prises, Ms Chapman of Linden urged the participants to continue to push the sport to International standards.
Meanwhile, the CSTC will stage the ‘Clarence D. Kirton’ Memorial Race Walk on Sunday August 10 in memory of the late outstanding Guyanese Journalist and Race Walk fan Clarence Kirton.
The race commences at 06:30hrs at the Prairie International Hotel, Coverden, East Bank Demerara and proceeds to the Soesdyke Primary School for the finish. Persons interested in participating in the Race are asked to be at the starting line by 06:00hrs.
