Kaieteur Sports – With well over 1000+ young people, both male and female already benefitting from educational investment by the Pele FC Alumni Corporation over the past decade, that rich developmental legacy is set to continue.
Over the next two-days from today, the Marian Academy will be added to this historical path when the 2024 edition of the non-profit organization two-day seminar commences. Alumni Chairman, Denis Carrington along with his fellow executive members and a number of other past and present players who will assist with the administration of the activity, said they are all very excited to continue this rich tradition.
“Many of my executives are back home in Guyana to continue what we have started many years ago. Doing this seminar brings lot of joy to us, and affords us the opportunity to contribute to these youths by guiding them in the right path towards being serious about their education and personal development apart from having careers in whichever sport they choose.”
Carrington, a former national player like many of his fellow executive members, believes that the investment they have been making over the years, is paying encouraging dividends, citing that one of the young people who passed through the programme and who the Pele FC Alumni Corp. supported with a monthly scholarship through his secondary years of education, is now studying to become a pilot.
“It’s stories like this and so many others that we are energised by and it empowers us to keep this initiative going.”
The feature opening remarks will be delivered by President of the Tourism Hospitality Association of Guyana who is also a Director on the Protected Areas Commission as well as a Co-Founder and Director of Herdmanston Lodge.
Among the areas the various presenters would be facilitating at the Seminar today and tomorrow, are Acceptable Social Behavior/Proper Decision Making, Self-Awareness, Conflict Resolution, Computer Literacy & Cyber Security – this will be a virtual presentation, Suicide and Mental Health, among others.
There will be a field trip tomorrow, Wednesday which will see the attendees visiting the CARICOM Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Pele FC Alumni held a successful day of football as they commemorated the 50th death anniversary of the passing of former President, Frank Watson. The event took place at the GFC Ground on Thursday last and saw four matches including one female, contested.
