Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Golf Association is continuing its promotion of golf within the region by partnering with The Paramaribo Golf Club, Nexgen Golf Academy and Westside Golf Course to host Suriname’s first ever Junior/Beginners Drive, Chip and Putt competition on Sunday October 8 during the Annual Paramaribo Golf Club Invitational Championship.
The much anticipated Suriname Invitational is a Major annual tournament that sees top players from several countries participating in the hopes of taking home the coveted title. This is the first year that a Junior and Beginners Tournament is being included in this massive event and everyone who has ever been interested in learning about golf is welcome.
This Inaugural Golf Event will allow first time players in 3 categories Under 13; Under 18 and Open, to experience the joy of playing golf and receive individual coaching from top Guyanese and Surinamese coaches with the guarantee that in less than 15 minutes, all participants will be able to hit a golf ball properly.
Sarah Chehin, Club Captain expressed her gratitude to the sponsor and Guyana Golf Association President Aleem Hussain, “We have noticed the incredible development of Golf in Guyana under Aleem’s guidance and especially with the number of school kids and new players starting to play golf. Our club decided that this collaboration will benefit both countries and open the path for inter-country competitions. We are grateful for the participation by our Guyanese counterparts to make this event possible.
“Paramaribo Golf Club plans to continue to engage with the Guyana Golf Association and Nexgen Golf Academy to develop the sport in an effort to stay competitive with Guyana where this model for golf has been introduced to the school system and thousands of new persons in the past few years by Hussain and the Guyana Golf Association.”
“We extend our model to our sister country since golf is a sport that brings out the best qualities in life, teaches humility and ethics and is the best opportunity for business networking. We realize that together, we can make the region a golf destination in the coming years,” said Hussain, who also reached out to a leading Surinamese company to secure sponsorship for the event.
