A trio will now be contemplating their next move after their North Ruimveldt home went up in flames yesterday morning.
Ronald Prince, 43, his 47-year-old sister, Colleen Prince and nephew Troy Dupson
16, were not home when tragedy struck around 11:30 hours. However according to residents, smoke was seen billowing from the house after several children – who reside in the area – were seen running away from the building.
An eyewitness who requested anonymity said that the children were playing with matches and somehow managed to set a bed on fire.
She then went on to say that the children, who were related to the Prince family, would often gain access into the home and she is convinced that their “mischief” led to the fire.
When Kaieteur News arrived on the scene, the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) had already contained the fire.
The occupants of the home were not on the scene. Several calls were made by family members, Solomon and Rita Prince, to locate them but to no avail.
Natasha Fordyce, who resides in the area, said that she was combing her hair when she heard a neighbour shouting “Fire! Fire”! She said that upon investigating, she saw the house engulfed in flames.
She then raised an alarm and a bucket brigade was formed to battle the fire until the firefighters came.
