The decomposed body of a man, who was discovered at the Good Hope Backdam on Wednesday, has been identified as 20-year-old Lassell Lambert of D’Urban Street, Lodge.
The body was positively identified by his girlfriend, who recognized the tattoo “God bless” on his upper right arm, when she examined the body yesterday.
She told police that she last saw Lambert on Friday, hours before the robbery.
Police believe that Lambert whose body was discovered around 08: 30 hours, was part of a gang that robbed Ruby Backdam, East Bank Essequibo residents, Farina Omar and Harricharran Muneshwar on Friday last.
A cellular phone that was stolen during the robbery was found next to Lambert’s body.
The police did not say if the body bore any marks of violence but detectives are probing whether the man was killed by his accomplices or if he was injured during the robbery.
A police source told this newspaper that they have arrested another man whom they believe was Lambert’s accomplice in the robbery.
They are also working on the theory that he might have been responsible for Lambert’s death.
The source said that they got on to the accomplice after a relative of Lambert’s informed them that the two men were very close friends who “moved” together.
However, the man has denied that he was with Lambert on Friday when the robbery was committed.
Investigations are continuing.
